Saara Menll (trans woman) °1967, is a Flemish visual artist who lives in Torhout (near Bruges) with her wife and youngest daughter. She has been a creative centipede from an early age, at a young age she publishes two collections of poetry, performs with her own band, releases a CD, has various radio programs on various stations, can be heard in many commercials and she also draws there. off.
Since 2009 she has her own art studio in her hometown where she works daily with various media to record her images on paper. In the beginning of her career as an artist she mainly focused on abstract pen drawings in which she did not shy away from challenges. Over time, she begins to color her works with watercolor.
In recent years, her focus has been on various projects, each characterized by the small dimensions of the works. She received the necessary support from graphic artist Pieter Denuwelaere and honed her painting techniques under the watchful eye of Joop De Chêne.
Saara has a graphic background and you notice that in the various projects of recent years, she now also uses all possible materials, even coffee, tea or correction fluid are used. She has developed her own technique that often produces intense colours. In contrast to her previous works, she now mainly makes figurative work, where she previously worked mainly abstractly and without a specific theme, she now does this. In the Cycle project (consisting of more than 100 works of 9 by 9 cm) she incorporated her transition and in the more recent Reflection project the themes of resurrection and resilience are addressed.
For the Transgender Infopunt Belgium she supported various trans people, sat on various panels and gave lectures. In 2019 she collaborated with her wife on the Transgender book by Guy T'Sjoen, Joz Motmans and Ilse Degryse.
Although she has already had several successful exhibitions, she is limiting these as she mainly wants to focus on creating and finishing series, for the Cycle project the goal is to make 300 works and the Reflection project should end with 55 works on the counter.
