The trans flag is a symbol of inclusivity and respect. The stripes at the top and bottom are light blue, the traditional color for baby boys. The stripes next to them are pink, the traditional color for baby girls. The stripe in the middle is white, representing those who are intersex, transitioning, or consider themselves having a neutral or undefined gender. The pattern is designed to always be correct, no matter how you fly it, signifying our journey to find correctness in our lives.
The trans flag, designed by Monica Helms, an American trans woman and activist, is a symbol of 'trans and proud,' diversity, and transgender rights. It represents gender identity rather than sexual orientation. On August 19, 2014, Monica Helms donated the trans flag to the Smithsonian Institution. In 2017, TransAmsterdam donated the trans flag from the first Amsterdam TransPride to the Amsterdam Museum, which is now part of the collection. In 2019, Monica Helms published her biography 'More Than Just A Flag.' This rich history and deep significance of the trans flag is an important part of our collective knowledge, educating us all about the struggles and triumphs of the trans community.
