Voor TransAmsterdam was 2022 een creatief, inspirerend maar ook een verdrietig jaar.

Op 6 april 2022 hebben na plotseling overlijden afscheid moeten nemen van Lucette onze coördinator café InClusion en Pride Oost. We missen haar nog steeds.

Amsterdam Oost is onze thuisbasis. De wijzen komen tenslotte uit het Oosten. TransAmsterdam is trots onderdeel te zijn van dit prachtige multiculturele en inclusieve stadsdeel. Waar mensen met verschillende achtergronden wonen, te gast zijn bij onze events en partners betrokken zijn bij onze organisatie.

Ook zijn we heel blij met ons inclusieve “trans, non binaire en cis personen“ team. Mensen met verschillende culturele achtergronden uit o.a. India, Indonesië, Marokko, Pakistan, Iran, Jordanië, Schotland, Bulgarije, Italië en niet te vergeten Friesland.

Vrijwilligers zijn de basis en de motor van onze organisatie. We hebben een kernteam opgezet. Het kernteam heeft een adviserende rol naar o.a. het bestuur. Voor onze vrijwilligers hebben we een interne vertrouwenspersoon aangesteld. Vrijwilligers kunnen bij hem terecht voor een geluisterd oor, als ze problemen onder vinden binnen TransAmsterdam. Hij kan mensen ook verwijzen naar andere organisaties. Bij nood zal hij het bestuur in schakelen om de juiste stappen te ondernemen.

Voor het eerst sinds 2014 hebben we geweld meegemaakt tijdens de Trans Vlaggen Dag in het Oosterpark. We hopen dit nooit meer mee hoeven maken. Het was schok voor ons team maar ook een goede leerschool om alert te zijn en te blijven. Ons team gaat voorzorg maatregelingen nemen zoals een veiligheidsprotocol opstellen en werken met een crew team tijdens onze events. Wij weten dat het ook goed kan gaan in Amsterdam-Oost." Zoals bij café InClusion, Trans Art School en de TransPride Walk en Pride Oost.

Iedere maand organiseren we Trans and Friends café InClusion. InClusion is meer en meer een prachtige uitgaansplek voor trans en non binaire personen in Amsterdam geworden. Vorig jaar hebben verschillende events bij InClusion organiseert. Zoals de indrukwekkende boekpresentatie De waarheid zal me bevrijden Alejandra Ortiz. Het is een aangrijpende verhaal van Alejandra, een trans vrouw die gevlucht is uit Mexico. Dit boek moet je zeker op je verlanglijstje zetten.

TransAmsterdam organiseert verschillende events waar iedereen welkom is. Maar er is 1 plek binnen onze organisatie waar we een veilige en creatieve plek voor trans en non binaire personen van verschillende leeftijden, culture, achtergronden en genders organiseren. Waar men samen kunst kan maken, zelfvertrouwen kan opbouwen en talent kan ontwikkelen door middel van kunst.

Het ontroerd me als onze deelnemers hun kunstwerken, gedichten en verhalen met elkaar delen. Het zijn soms pijnlijke, maar ook krachtige en inspireerde verhalen/gedichten. Ik ben blij dat TransAmsterdam hier een bijdrage aan kan leveren.

In 2022 is onze Trans Art School genomineerd voor DI Code Award. Dit is een geweldige erkenning voor TransAmsterdam en onze Trans Art School. Het heeft ons een geweldige boost gegeven en op de kaart gezet. Vorig jaar hebben we mooie en creatieve workshops Dans, Drag, Muziek, Theater/Spoken Word georganiseerd.

In 2023 willen we onze Trans Art School verder gaan ontwikkelen, zodat trans en non-binaire personen nog meer hun talenten kunnen ontwikkelen. Met de deelnemers gaan we werken aan een eindproduct of -project, zoals een optredens, expositie, muurschilderijen en dichtbundel.

Ons platform voor trans kunstenaars en artiesten is in ontwikkelen. Er staat al een aantal prachtige biografieën op onze website.

Vorig jaar hadden bijzonder Internationaal bezoek. Zo hebben we voor Opera zangeres, sopraan Breanna Sinclairé uit San Francisco een Meet & Greet georganiseerd. Ze gaf een prachtig optreden bij de Winq Awards. Ze zong de sterren van de hemel. Kami Sid activiste en kunstenares uit Pakistan gaf bij onze Trans Art School een sufi dans workshop en we organiseerde een Meet and Greet met haar.

Dit jaar verheugen we ons op het bezoek van Kalki Subramaniam. Kalki is een beroemde trans artiest uit India. Ze is de oprichter van Sahodari Foundation en ambassadeur van TransAmsterdam. In mei/juni komt ze een Bollywood dance workshops en haar boek presentatie geven. Je mag dit zeker niet missen.

Ik ben heel trots op de creativiteit in onze trans community, ons team, deelnemers, docenten.

De samenleving is niet altijd vriendelijke, soms zelfs gevaarlijk voor trans personen. Daarom is de Trans Art School zo belangrijk voor onze community. Tijdens de verschillende workshops ontwikkelt men meer zelfvertrouwen. Durf men zich meer te uiten. Kunst, muziek, gedichten, dans aan familie, vrienden en tenslotte aan een groter publiek laten zien.

Kunst en cultuur zijn een van de belangrijkste verbindende factoren voor onze doelgroep. Onze Trans Art School geeft trans personen de mogelijkheid om zichzelf te ontwikkelen op artistiek en cultureel gebied in een veilige, begripvolle en sociale omgeving.

Beetje bij beetje ontstaat er een gevoel van trots. Trots op wie je bent, op wat je hebt gemaakt. Je bent meer dan je gender.

For TransAmsterdam, 2022 was a creative, inspiring, and sad year.

On April 6, 2022, after sudden death, we had to say goodbye to Lucette our coördinator of café InClusion and Pride Oost. We still miss her.

Amsterdam East is our home base. After all, the wise comes from the East. TransAmsterdam is proud to be part of this beautiful multicultural, and inclusive city district. Where people with different backgrounds live, are guests at our events, and partners are involved in our organization.

We are also delighted with our inclusive “trans, non-binary and cis people” team. People with different cultural backgrounds from India, Indonesia, Morocco, Pakistan, Iran, Jordan, Scotland, Bulgaria, Italy, and last but not least, Friesland.

Volunteers are the basis and engine of our organization. We have set up a core team. The core team has an advisory role to the board, among others. We have appointed a confidential internal adviser for our volunteers. Volunteers can turn to him for a listening ear if they encounter problems within TransAmsterdam. He can also refer people to other organizations. He will call the board to take the proper steps in an emergency.

For the first time since 2014, we experienced violence during Trans Flags Day in the Oosterpark. We hope we never have to share this again. It was a shock for our team and a good learning experience to be and stay alert. Our team will take precautions such as drawing up a safety protocol and working with a crew team during our events. We know that things can also go well in Amsterdam East." Such as at café InClusion, Trans Art School and the TransPride Walk, and Pride East.

Every month we organize Trans and Friends café InClusion. InClusion has become more and more a wonderful place to go out for trans and non-binary people in Amsterdam. Last year we organized several events at InClusion. Such as the impressive book presentation The truth will set me free by Alejandra Ortiz. It is a poignant story of Alejandra, a trans woman who fled Mexico. You should put this book on your wish list.

TransAmsterdam organizes various events where everyone is welcome. But there is one place within our organization where we manage a safe and creative place for trans and non-binary people of different ages, cultural backgrounds, and genders. Where people can make art together, build self-confidence and develop talent through art.

It moves me when our participants share their artworks, poems, and stories. They are sometimes painful but also powerful and inspiring stories/poems. I am pleased that TransAmsterdam can contribute to this.

In 2022 our Trans Art School was nominated for DI Code Award. Excellent recognition for TransAmsterdam and our Trans Art School. It has given us a tremendous boost and put us on the map. Last year we organized beautiful and creative workshops Dance, Drag, Music, Theater / Spoken Word.

In 2023 we want to develop our Trans Art School further so that trans and non-binary people can develop their talents even more. Together with the participants, we will work on a final product or project, such as a performance, exhibition, wall paintings, and collection of poems.

Our platform for trans artists and performers is under development. There are already some beautiful biographies on our website.

Last year we had a special international visit. For example, we organized a Meet & Greet for Opera singer soprano Breanna Sinclairé from San Francisco. She gave an outstanding performance at the Winq Awards. She sang the stars of heaven.

Kami Sid activist and artist from Pakistan, gave a Sufi dance workshop at our Trans Art School, and we organized a Meet and Greet for her.

This year we are looking forward to the visit of Kalki Subramaniam. Kalki is a famous trans artist from India. She is the founder of Sahodari Foundation and ambassador of TransAmsterdam. In May/June, she will give a Bollywood dance workshop and her book presentation. You should not miss this.

I am very proud of the creativity in our trans community, our team, participants, and teachers.

Society is not always friendly, sometimes even dangerous for trans people. That's why the Trans Art School is so important to our community. During the various workshops, people develop more self-confidence. Express them self more? Showing art, music, poems, and dance to family, friends, and finally to a broader audience.

Art and culture are the essential connecting factors for our target group. Our Trans Art School gives trans people the opportunity to develop themselves artistically and culturally in a safe, understanding, and social environment.

Little by little, a sense of pride emerges. Proud of who you are, of what you have made. You are more than your gender.
